Review - Handmade Noodles at Mei Nung Beef Noodle House (Markham, Ontario)

For this food adventure, the family and I were shopping in the area and decided to revisit a popular noodle restaurant in the Markham area - Mei Nung Beef Noodle House. Even though I have visited here many times, this is my first time writing an extensive review on Mei Nung Beef Noodle House.

This restaurant was located on the south side of the First Markham Place. Parking in the plaza can be chaotic during dining times. It might be best to park far and walk the rest of the way. The restaurant isn't large by any standards with the simple white clean walls and dark theme wooden tables and chairs. The place had the stinky tofu scent in the air (due to the popular tofu dish). As a disclaimer - don't bring clothing you aren't willing to sacrifice.

Brought the foodie clan in for a meal and it was very chaotic with the stroller and bags. The servers were very helpful in getting replacements for dropped chopsticks and extra napkins. They reorganized some of the chairs to make it easier for feeding. Normally when feeding one of the kids, I don't normally eat at the same time. The soup from one of the broth got soaked with the noodles. Typically, the staff would charge $2 CAD just to refill the soup but gave us extra soup without charge.

This is one of my most favorite place in Toronto if you want authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soup and stinky tofu. House made noodles were always great and bowls of beef noodle came with bountiful piles of perfectly stewed meat and pickled vegetables. The beef broth mixed with soy based was very hearty and refreshing with the pickled vegs.

For this meal, we ordered the pickled cucumbers and leafy greens. In addition, if the kids had regretted the noodles, we ordered the pork dumplings as a backup (yes - we probably ordered too much …). The pickled cucumber dish was good with the sweet and sour tones with the crisp texture of the vegetable. The pork dumplings were something that I would never order here. To my surprise, the dish was actually pretty tasty with the thick skin wrap with the sweet and juicy filling.

My rating for this restaurant still stands the same. Always a safe choice for beef noodle soup here!
