Lunch at Hakka 77 (Richmond Hill, Ontario)

3:32:00 PM

For this awesome foodie lunch adventure, my colleagues wanted a close by outing due to some business meetings in the afternoon.Trying to be resource, I decided to load up Google Map and search near our area. To my surprised, I spotted this restaurant, Hakka 77, in this hidden plaza. With the growing reviews on Yelp and Google, we went off for grub.

Atmosphere:
This restaurant wasn't well advertised on the main roads and is located within a business plaza complex. By lunch time, the restaurant was 70% full. I wouldn't expect too much from the décor. The styling is very outdated and definitely could use a refresher. The restaurant had a L shape layout with a couple window both sitting.

Service:
They advertised that they had free wifi but wasn't working properly. The servers were very busy and sometimes hard to flag down. Other than that, they were good in taking our orders and providing them.

Food:
Hakka is the cooking style of Hakka people who can be found in parts of Taiwan and China. A typical misconception is that Hakka is Indian food fusion with Chinese food (probably due to restaurant marketing in Toronto). Hakka cuisine may be described as outwardly simple but tasty. The skill in Hakka cuisine lies in the ability to cook meat thoroughly without hardening it, and to naturally bring out the proteinous flavour (umami taste) of meat.

At lunch time, they had a lunch special of $7 CAD offering rice, main dish, drink or soup with spring roll. This was pretty amazing since most of the lunch restaurants rarely provide such food quantity for this price. For this lunch meal, we ordered the Chili Chicken while my colleague got the Manchurian noodles.

In regards to the quality of the food, it was decent portions and tasty. Was it the best chili chicken that I have ever had? Yes for now. It was tasty with great value for price. The flavour depth was completely developed. I got to try the manchurian noodles - this dish was a complete homerun. The noodles were completely seasoned well. Every single noodle had an amazing bite of flavour (definitely very oily).

Verdict:
Definitely would come back with the foodie gang.
