Pho at Pho Dau Bo (Mississauga, Ontario)

For this foodie dinner adventure, I took the family out west for Easter holiday at Spring Ridge farm (Halton Hills area). We were coming back home to Toronto and suggested that we try out the Pho Dau Bo on the way.

This pho restaurant is 1 of 12 pho chains scatter across Ontario region. For this particular location in Mississauga, it was located in a plaza where No Frills used to be. Within the restaurant, it was clean and quiet. They had some nice tasteful paintings on the wall with trims. With any other pho restaurant, you can find the cache of sauces (hot sauce, oyster sauce) and tools (napkins, chopsticks, spoons, etc) available on your table top.

We were given menus and a paper to write down the items you wanted to order. The service was very simple and very straightforward. They were kind enough to provide an extra bowl of broth soup in the middle of the meal.

From the menu, they offered many Vietnamese dishes ranging from pho to bun dishes. The options were very extensive and similar to what I survived on during my university years in Toronto. From many online reviews and personal friends, Pho Dau Bo's food is regarded as the most consistent and authentic to what you can expect in Vietnam (especially in Saigon and Hanoi).

For this meal, we ordered the house special pho (large = $8.25 CAD) as well as rice dish with grilled pork chop and shrimp ($9.50 CAD).

The restaurant proudly displayed the words "The Most Famous Vietnamese Noodle Soup" on their walls. I normally take this proud proclamation with little importance. However, this place was an exception. After trying their pho dish especially their soup, I was definitely in agreement with them. Their beef broth was very rich in flavors and made this occasion great since I was fighting a cold (thank you children from daycare). The noodles were perfect in texture and not too soft. The toppings in the soup such as the beef balls, brisket, rare beef, beef tripe were typical/normal as seen in other pho chains.

The rice with the grilled pork chop and shrimp was a very simple dish with clear separation of the food groups: grilled pork chop, shrimp cooked in head juice reduction sauce and vegetables. Sweeten fish sauce was provided as a side condiment to pour over the rice or meat.

The meal was delicious and definitely would come back for more.
