Eating Pizza at Abruzzo Pizza (Richmond Hill, Ontario)

4:05:00 PM

For this lunch adventure, I was seeking something new to eat. I just got this restaurant recommendation from a foodie colleague for "Abruzzo Pizza." With no other recommendations, we went off in search of this popular highly rated Italian restaurant!

You can find this restaurant in the small plaza on Yonge St (west end). Apparently, there were two fronts for this establishment. Under the Abruzzo sign, there was a take out section just for pizza ordering. There was another building on the north side of the plaza for the sit in (more furnished looking). Since we were not looking for take-out, we got welcomed at the sit-in restaurant and found seating very quickly. In 30 mins, the place was completely filled with customers. I was kind of expecting this since the online reviews (yelp, google) were mostly positive. The décor of the sit-in restaurant was dark brown palettes for walls, ground and tables.

The server was very good. He was very attentive to all our needs and provide extra condiments for the pasta and bread.

For an Italian restaurant, the menu had everything antipasto, pizzas, pasta to sandwiches. Since their restaurant was known for pizza, I had to get a pizza (ordered the "Special Pizza" for $16 for small). My colleague decided to get meat sauce with fettuccine pasta ($13.50). From online reading, their dough was produced from a secret family recipe and many of the ingredients used were top quality (including Italian imported tomatoes).

My colleague remarked that his meat pasta was perfect.  From initial observations, the dish looked very simple in construction. I guess that the devil is in the details (fresh ingredients with freshly made pasta).

For the special pizza, it used the following topics: tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, bacon, onion, mushroom and green peppers. Overall, my first bite into the pizza was very satisfying. I was expecting the pizza to be greasy but was not the case. The taste buds were going into overdrive with the warm pizza crust with the layers of cheese. The glutamates in the pizza (from cheese to tomato sauce) really enhanced the flavour more. It was really hard to resist eating the entire pizza!

Would I come back again? Yes. On this occasion, I saw other foodie colleagues (Italian background) visiting this restaurant and he highly recommended it.
