Eating Lunch at The Guksu and Noodle (Thornhill, Ontario)

3:07:00 PM

I found this "new" Korean noodle restaurant "The Guksu and Noodles" from an old friend on Facebook (thanks Gina!). This restaurant is one of the rare ones that specializes in mostly Korean hot and cold noodles dishes. For this lunch adventure, my foodie colleague and I were free of meetings and decided to venture out here for lunch.

Atmosphere:
This restaurant was located directly on Yonge St with limited 4 parking spaces at the front of the restaurant. There were additional parking spaces at the back of the restaurant with back door entrance.  The décor of the place was very clean and had a lot of maple/tree themes. There were two sections where you can find seating: lower level or higher level.

Service:
The servers were mostly Korean but understood English. They were quick to provide service and ordering. If the restaurant was full, you could expect to wait 30-50 minutes for your next meal.

Food:
Guksu means noodle in Korean. On the menu, they have a long list of hot and cold noodle options. In addition to the noodles, there was a list of appetizers ranging from bulgogi, pork to deep fried tempera (Yache Twigim).

For the first lunch adventure, my colleague and I ordered the Chicken Guksu ($11), Fruit Bibim Guksu ($10.50) and Grilled Beef Bulgogi ($11 for Regular Size).  For this lunch visit, we also got some starters - cold pumpkin puree and kimchi. They were a good start to the meal.

The Chicken Guksu was like the best chicken noodle soup dish in the world. This dish maintained a pure chicken broth with sous vide cooked chicken breast with wheat noodles. There were sliced vegetables with eggs (in noodle form). If you were sick, this dish was definitely heavenly to cure the illness away.

The Beef Bulgogi side dish was plated nicely (probably Instagram-worthy). It came with a poached egg on the side. Unfortunately, the beef was definitely over grilled/cooked and came out with a very dry texture. We declared to never get it again.

The Fruit Bibim Guksu was the most interesting item that I wanted to try despite the very cold weather. This cold noodle dish was served with cold wheat noodles mixed with a special spicy fruit sauce and topped with seasonal fruits and some vegetables. The presentation was really bold and pleasant on the eyes. I can see why this would be a popular dish on a hot summer's day.

Verdict:
Would I come here again? I did - a couple times with the family! Suggestion to go early and not during the rush hour times.
