Lunch Dim Sum at Grandeur Palace (Scarborough, Toronto)

11:47:00 AM

I had heard this new Chinese restaurant from the foodie chow groups in Toronto. The restaurant was previously Dragon Dynasty and had a mostly positive experience from the past visits. Thew new restaurant was called "Grandeur Palace" and convinced the big boss that we could head here after finishing our errands in the east end of Toronto.

The main entrance was located within the Chartwell Shopping Centre. This plaza was horrible with the lack of parking spaces. It was like another day on boxing day with drivers camped out waiting for spots to magically appear in front of them. Lucky for me, I had to wait a few minutes before spotting an opening for me.

The decor was totally different from the previous restaurant. Lots of light colours and mirror walls made the place brighter and larger than before. There were semi room partitions setup on the left side of the restaurant (when facing the main hall). The chandeliers were magnificent and grand in the opening dining hall.

If you had follow me through my journey, I rarely rank a 4 rating for service. The staff were very helpful and went above the call of duty to assist us with heating up the baby food we brought.

Like most of the dim sum restaurant in Toronto, this one was the same for ordering - pick the items you want on paper and the staff would deliver it to your table.

Dim sum here was priced a bit higher for regular tea hours ($2.90, $3.90, $4.90).
There was the early bird pricing of $2.90 for S/M/L before 11am).

For this meal - we order a large assortment of food (probably too much) and came a little late:

  • Siu Mai (shrimp and pork dumplings)
  • Mini Xiao Long Bao
  • Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce
  • Hai Gow (Shrimp Dumplings)
  • Beef Tripe with Ginger
  • Durian Puff Pastry
  • Corn Congee
  • Clay Pot Rice with Chinese Sausage
  • Baked Soft Egg York Pastry
Most of the food was actually pretty good.  The only complaint that I had was the baked soft york pastry - complete disappointment in flavour and mostly sugar.  I noticed that a lot of people ordered the lobster E-fu noodles. One of the star dishes was the durian puff pastry - very strong durian flavours and totally flaky. By the end of the meal, the restaurant was setting up the place for a wedding and encountered my old wedding decorator :p

Would I come back? Definitely interested in trying their other dishes.
