Eating Dinner @ Té (Downtown Toronto)

2:43:00 PM

The chef and co-owner at Té, Grace, reached out to me about visiting her restaurant for a complimentary tasting in order to get my feedback and review on Zomato.  I gladly accepted the invite and found some time in early November to visit.

Atmosphere:
Té is an new Asian fusion restaurant addition to the Ossington area in the downtown Toronto.  We were fortunate to get the front seats against the front window facing Ossington with the round white marble table. The back of the restaurant was occupied by a couple of smaller wooden tables.  The decor looked clean and simple; however, the appearance wasn't warming.

Service:
The staff were very attentive to our needs and responsive to our questions.

Food:
Their menu focuses on North American bar foods and cocktails with Asian twists. A lot of the fusion comes from Taiwanese and Korean influences. Having tried many Asian foods, I was excited to see the dishes.

We ordered the following dishes:

  • Dark spiced Taiwanese fried chicken
  • Taiwanese Egg Shooters
  • Crispy Squid Cakes
  • Bulgogi Burger
  • Toasted Sticks
  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Pizza Tteok Bok Ki
  • Braised Pork Crostini
Since I don't think drink and drive, we didn't get any alcoholic drinks for the evening.

In regards to the food, the crispy squid cakes, Taiwanese egg shooters, toasted sticks and Braised Pork Crostini were kind of disappointing for me. The crispy squid cakes were more like the squid balls with seasoning that can be found at Pacific Malls snack shops. The Taiwanese egg shooters tasted like my childhood memories. However, it was really gimmicky in a shooter format. The braised pork could have another depth element with additional layering of spices to bring the crostini to another level. In regards to the toasted sticks, there were very sweet hard bread served with ice cream. I found them too hard and cold for my liking.

The Pizza Tteok Bok Ki was the soft Asian-style steamed rice dough balls sauteed with garlic, onion, & bell peppers, smothered in a sweet chilli tomato sauce and oven-baked with mozzarella. I personally found the dish very hot/spicy beyond my liking. This pizza concept was definitely interested but I would classify as a non pizza dish (IMHO).

There were some signature stand out dishes: dark spiced Taiwanese fried chicken and bulgogi burgers.
The fried chicken was season well with the spices and was tender inside. This dish was truly a fusion chicken item. The mini burgers were surprising very delicious with the soy marinated beef with the running quail egg and mayo sauce.

Overall, I really enjoyed the food at . With some potential changes, the restaurant has potential.
