New Orleans, US - Eating @ Deanie's Seafood Restaurant (Adventures of tobrunchies)

Featured on Man vs Food, it was one of my must eat places. They do not accept reservations so there is normally an hour plus wait, especially around dinner time. It is well worth the wait though! Fortunately, they have a bar at the front so you can order a drink to enjoy while waiting.

They started us off with a side of spicy crab boiled potatoes while we browsed through the menu. These unassuming treats were the most flavourful and mouth watering taters we had ever had. The melting butter would not even cool down the Creole spice infused spuds.

Barbeque Shrimp

These jumbo shrimps were presented in a nice hot mini cast iron skillet. The word I always use when describing Creole food is flavourful. If you are used to eating bland food, this dish is definitely not for you! Each bite was bursting in spicy, oily, salty goodness. The shrimps were so fresh and bouncy. They gave a baguette so that we could continue enjoying the sauce. We actually ended up dipping the deep fried seafood platter in this sauce as well.

Seafood and Okra Gumbo

The gumbo was quite hearty with all the veggies and seafood melange. It was topped with some rice. It actually helped “cleanse” the palette for the next course.

Half Seafood Platter

The platter consists of fresh shrimp, oysters, catfish, crawfish croquettes, softshell crabs, and fries. It came with a side of coleslaw, cocktail sauce, and tartar sauce. The seafood was so fresh! The shrimp was so bouncy! The softshell crab was so juicy! The crawfish croquettes had so many delicious spices blended into it.

One attention to detail that I really liked about the restaurant bathroom is that they made sure they had a handle where you use your arm to pull open the door. This way your hands stay clean to enjoy the seafood without thinking about germs! This is a must eat place when visiting New Orleans! Especially if you are a seafood lover and would prefer a more casual setting.
