Since I work around the Hwy 7 area, First Markham place is an area that I frequently visit. I adore Korean food  and visited the popular Korean Nak Won restaurant at different locations in Toronto. This blog posting is a review about their location at First Markham place.

Atmosphere:
The restaurant was very grand in the terms of the seating and spaciousness. There were a lot of small wooden tables as well as large ones in the corners of the large dining hall. On every table, there was the wireless button to alert staff to your requests. Most of the time, the staff did respond to these buttons.

Service:
The staff were friendly and courteous in getting our orders and providing the food to our tables.They were also nice enough to refill the side dishes.

Food:
When going to a Korean restaurant, I like to order the GamJaTang - pork bone soup. This dish costed about $8 and contained pork bone soup with potatoes, vegs and a side bowl of rice. It was hot and bubbling when it arrived to the table.  My colleague had order the same dish as well. From many visits, there was a chance that the meat wouldn't fall off from the bone ... My dish had meat that fell off from the bone but my colleague's version was stubbornly stuck on ...

Banchan often translated as "side dishes" are an essential part of any Korean meal. They are not just decoration or appetizers: they are the meal, along with the other dishes. For this meal, we got vegs, kimchi, sweet potatoes, pickled radishes, bean sprout, bean curd and marinated sweet glass noodles. The banchan were average in flavour compared to other restaurants.

Overall, it is sometimes a hit and miss for the dishes on various visits. If someone could recommend a better Korean restaurant in the area, please let me know!
