Eating @ Koo Koo Chicken (Mississauga)

12:00:00 PM

I found a blog posting about Taiwanese chicken restaurant in the west end of Toronto. My wife has never tried this before and wanted to try.  We went near a long weekend holiday and discovered it was closed for that weekend ... The following week, we went again and it was finally opened. I hope it was really worth it since this place, "Koo Koo Chicken" was in the middle of no where and far from home.

Atmosphere:
The restaurant was divided into two parts. You could either do a take out for the popular fried chicken part or order actual dishes. Either way, the fried chicken and other dishes took time (10-15 minutes depending on how busy the place was). You just had to sit and wait. The decor was very old fashion with carpets and yellow walls. Just don't expect anything modern or breathtaking.

Service:
The servers were good and took our orders at their main desk. We had a lot of questions about what to get and they were helpful in their responses.

Food:
I didn't want to drive this far again for this place. So we went crazy on ordering and decided to pack up whatever we couldn't eat for leftovers.

We ordered the core Taiwanese dishes: Taiwanese oyster omelette, Taiwanese beef noodle soup, fried chicken steak and accidentally the fried chicken steak with rice. The oyster omelette was totally non traditional - very cooked through and not as gluey when cooked with the potato flour. Regardless of how it was cooked, I enjoyed the dish. The beef noodle soup was a total let down. Broth of the soup was just oil and crazy spicy; the noodles were just simply overcooked.

Lastly, the fried chicken steak was amazing with the crispy skin combined with the meat. There were no bones at all in this steak. They have seasonings on the table and go to that you can sprinkle over the chicken.

Overall, the price on average was about $10 per dish but with large portions. If you were in the area, I would just go for the fried chicken steak.
