Dinner @ Yu Seafood (Richmond Hill)

12:00:00 PM

A group of my old friends from university and high school met up for some old fashion salmon fishing. Unfortunately, the salmon weren't alive compared to the weeks earlier ... We decided to come to Yu Seafood for dinner after the fishing run. This was my first time visiting "Yu Seafood" for dinner ; however, I came here a few times for their lunch meals.

Atmosphere:

Yu Seafood was located on Hwy #7 where the previous Wasibi AYCE Japanese restaurant was.  Rumour was that the owner of this restaurant spent $3+ million on the entire restaurant. The decor was  artistically decorated with a lot of tall ceilings with many themes elements of Japanese architecture. We were able to secure one of tables in one of the many backroom.

Service:
The servers were good and provided us with our dishes. It was very unfortunate that they forgot one of our dishes (the french turbot) and served it last minute at the end of our meal ...

Food:
For price point, this was definitely one of the expensive Chinese restaurant that you will find for dinner. With set meals costing about average $50-70 a person, this was an actual bargain vs ordering a la carte.  We decided to order a 4 set course meal with some side dishes for our group.

We got the following dishes (Lobster and Turbo Combo)
  • Sashimi Platter - 3 pcs each of tuna, salmon, hamachi, sanpper and herring
  • Premium Shark Fin Soup
  • Stir Fried Lobster with Garlic (~6lb)
  • Steamed Eel with Black Bean Sauce
  • Steamed Turbot Fish (2 lb)
  • Stir Fried Rice with Lobster Tomalley
  • Premium Dessert Soup of the Day (White Fungus in Sweet Papaya Sweet soup)
  • Pea Sprout Braised in Premium Fish Soup
  • Fried Green Beans with Minced Pork (not part of combo)

My first impression of the food was a positive one. Visually, I loved the unique plate presentation especially with the dry ice effect for the sashimi platter.

Regarding the specific tastes of the dishes, the stir fried lobster was the star dish of the night. This lobster was much enjoyable than the Fishman Clubhouse lobster style. The flavour was much more intense and less greasy.

In general, the overall quality of the food ranges from good to very delicious. The business was so busy that people were still coming in and filling the restaurant towards the late night. I think this restaurant will continue to survive in Toronto :)
